Day 1
Arrival in Arusha
Welcome to Tanzania! Upon landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport, transfer to your hotel in Arusha for relaxation and last-minute preparations. Enjoy a welcoming dinner and meet your guides who will brief you on the exciting trek ahead.
Day 2
Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Cave Camp
Elevation: Start at 1,640 meters (5,380 feet); end at 2,850 meters (9,350 feet)
Distance: 6 km (3.7 miles)
Duration: 4-5 hours of hiking
Camp: Umbwe Cave Camp
Begin your climb at the Umbwe Gate, quickly entering a steep forest track. This challenging first day offers a serene hike through dense rainforest, leading to the secluded Umbwe Cave Camp.
Day 3
Umbwe Cave Camp to Barranco Camp
Elevation: Start at 2,850 meters (9,350 feet); end at 3,960 meters (12,992 feet)
Distance: 6 km (3.7 miles)
Duration: 4-5 hours of hiking
Camp: Barranco Camp
Trek through the moorland with its fascinating flora, transitioning to alpine desert. As you approach Barranco Camp, the striking Barranco Wall presents a majestic backdrop.
Day 4
Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Elevation: Start at 3,960 meters (12,992 feet); end at 3,995 meters (13,107 feet)
Distance: 5 km (3.1 miles)
Duration: 4-5 hours of hiking
Camp: Karanga Camp
Conquer the Great Barranco Wall in a thrilling scramble that isn’t technically difficult but requires stamina. Descend into the Karanga Valley and ascend to Karanga Camp for overnight.
Day 5
Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Elevation: Start at 3,995 meters (13,107 feet); end at 4,673 meters (15,331 feet)
Distance: 4 km (2.5 miles)
Duration: 4-5 hours of hiking
Camp: Barafu Camp
Ascend from Karanga to the barren landscapes of Barafu Camp. The short trek allows time to rest and prepare for the summit night. Sleep early as you anticipate the midnight climb.
Day 6
Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak and down to Mweka Camp
Elevation: Start at 4,673 meters (15,331 feet); ascend to 5,895 meters (19,341 feet); descend to 3,100 meters (10,171 feet)
Distance: 17 km (10.6 miles)
Duration: 11-14 hours of hiking
Camp: Mweka Camp
Begin around midnight, trekking towards Stella Point on the crater rim. Continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating, descend to Mweka Camp for your final night on the mountain.
Day 7
Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate - Transfer to Arusha
Elevation: Descend from 3,100 meters (10,171 feet) to 1,640 meters (5,380 feet)
Distance: 10 km (6.2 miles)
Duration: 3-4 hours of hiking
Complete your descent through lush forests to Mweka Gate. Collect your summit certificates before being driven back to Arusha. Spend the evening relaxing at your hotel, celebrating your successful climb.
Day 8
Departure from Kilimanjaro International Airport
Enjoy some final moments in Tanzania with a leisurely breakfast at your hotel. Later, transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure flight, carrying unforgettable memories of your climb.
