Arrival in Arusha

Welcome to Tanzania! Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Arusha. Spend the day relaxing and preparing for the adventure ahead. Meet your guides for a pre-trek briefing in the evening.

Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

Elevation: Start at 1,860 meters (6,102 feet); end at 2,700 meters (8,858 feet)

Distance: 8 km (5 miles)

Duration: Approximately 4-5 hours of hiking

Camp: Mandara Hut

Start your trek through a captivating rainforest, where you might spot colobus monkeys and vibrant birdlife. This gentle first day ends at the welcoming Mandara Hut.

Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Elevation: Start at 2,700 meters (8,858 feet); end at 3,720 meters (12,205 feet)

Distance: 12 km (7.5 miles)

Duration: 5-6 hours of hiking

Camp: Horombo Hut

Traverse the heath and moorland zones, offering surreal landscapes and views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The day concludes at the spacious Horombo Hut.

Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut

Elevation: Up to 4,200 meters (13,780 feet) on acclimatization walk

Distance: Optional 5 km (3.1 miles) round trip

Duration: 3-4 hours (optional walk)

Camp: Horombo Hut

Enjoy a lighter day with an optional walk towards Mawenzi for better acclimatization. Spend the evening relaxing under the African stars.

Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Elevation: Start at 3,720 meters (12,205 feet); end at 4,703 meters (15,430 feet)

Distance: 10 km (6.2 miles)

Duration: 5-6 hours of hiking

Camp: Kibo Hut

The trek across the alpine desert of the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo is otherworldly. Prepare for your summit push with an early night at Kibo Hut.

Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak and down to Horombo Hut

Elevation: Start at 4,703 meters (15,430 feet); ascend to 5,895 meters (19,341 feet); descend to 3,720 meters (12,205 feet)

Distance: 21 km (13 miles) total

Duration: About 11-15 hours of hiking

Camp: Horombo Hut

Summit night begins with a midnight hike to reach Uhuru Peak for sunrise. Witness breathtaking views before descending back to Horombo Hut for rest.

Day 7: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

Elevation: Descend from 3,720 meters (12,205 feet) to 1,860 meters (6,102 feet)

Distance: 18 km (11.2 miles)

Duration: 5-6 hours of hiking

Descend through beautiful montane forests to Marangu Gate. Here, you'll receive your summit certificates and celebrate the completion of your trek.

Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport

Enjoy a leisurely morning at your hotel in Arusha, reflecting on your journey. Later, transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure flight, taking home memories and achievements to last a lifetime.
